Dating back to 1879 the Chase Store building, founded by Enos J. Chase was the local, general store selling all the necessities of country life – baked goods, clothing, machine oil, wallpaper, blankets, hats, canes, eggs, feed, candy, cigars, tools and sundries.
Supported by dairy farming, and iron mining at the turn of the century the thriving town of Pine Plains also boasted a weekly newspaper, the Pine Plains Herald, and was crossroads to no less than four rail lines that stopped at one of two local stations.
A century later and the railroads long gone, The Pine Plains Emporium was created by a local couple as a way of revitalizing this small town for locals and visitors alike. I was asked to conceive and implement a merchandising plan and overall design for a new store full of necessities and collectibles - everything from sewing supplies, muck boots and local trail guides to garden tools and penny candy.
